CENTRIA SECULAB: Cybersecurity Podcast Bringing Digital Safety to Everyday Life
Cybersecurity often feels like a technical, distant topic reserved for specialists and large corporations. But in today’s hyper-connected world, it matters to everyone. That is the insight behind the Centria SecuLab cybersecurity podcast, a Finnish initiative that brings essential cybersecurity knowledge straight to the everyday internet user in a way that is both accessible and relatable.
Launched in February 2023 by Centria University of Applied Sciences, the podcast, known locally as “Tietoturva Podcast”. Its goal is to provide bite-sized, easy-to-understand content about digital safety, tailored for anyone who uses the internet in their personal or professional life.
Each episode ranges from 10 to 40 minutes, perfect for listening on a commute, during a walk, or while working. The episodes explore real-life cybersecurity scenarios and give practical tips on how to recognize, avoid, and respond to digital threats. Topics include phishing, passwords, data protection, safe online behavior, and the human side of cybersecurity, all without heavy jargon.
The podcast is available free of charge on Spotify and via browser, no app required. This low barrier to access makes it ideal for reaching diverse audiences across Finland. Although the language is Finnish, the topics are universally relevant, and the format itself could be adapted in other countries or sectors.
Episodes are recorded via Microsoft Teams and edited using free software, proving that quality educational content can be produced affordably and independently. Guests include experts from different fields who bring their insights and real-world experiences to the discussion.
With 15 episodes published as of April 2025, the project is still growing, but the feedback has already been positive. Listeners appreciate the informal tone and practical takeaways, while participants feel valued for being able to contribute their knowledge to a wider audience.
Though promotion has been a challenge as with many online services, the podcast has succeeded in establishing itself as a supplement or alternative to traditional webinars. It’s also helped Centria engage with new audiences in a format that is on-demand, flexible, and mobile-friendly.
